Salmon fishing (November to April) is available in the nearby Rangitata River, as is whitewater rafting while trout anglers are catered for with various smaller streams. For gardeners, there are many folk who open their gardens to visitors during the summer months and craft shops abound. Specialities include handcrafted woollen knitwear and a local art trail has been set up. A variety of restaurants and cafes cater for diners throughout the day and evening. Geraldine is well known as the home of Anthony Barkers, specialist producers of delicious fruit juices, jams, toppings, sauces and jellies. No visit is complete without calling at their shop in the Berry Barn Centre for a tasting session. Locally grown blackcurrants, now recognised for their health-promoting qualities, are used extensively. |
